Comment: Postmenopausaal women don’t have cholesterol/heart disease, they have calcium/heart disease. As their bones wither with the loss of estrogen, calcium is lost from bone and deposited in arteries.
The largest increase in cardiovascular risk is immediately following the onset of menopause. Measuring cholesterol, C-reactive protein, insulin resistance, amounted to measuring incorrect markers of disease, not disease itself. Women’s arteries stiffen due to calcifications. Calcium represents ~50% of arterial plaque, cholesterol about 3-20%. This is why supplemental calcium also increases the risk for mortal heart attacks.
You have to ask yourself, if doctor’s don’t know this, why are they treating your mother? Vitamin D is an anti-calcifying agent, not an anti-cholesterol agent. It appears this study was intentionally designed to fail.

Should humanity begin screening human embryos for personality and moral flaws? That is what a bioethicist says must be done and humanity should not hesitate a moment in doing it. A bioethicist, Julian Savulescu at Oxford University, says humanity is just a step away from designer babies since it already screens for inherited diseases like cystic fibrosis and Down’s syndrome in embryos. Parents could choose desirable characteristics to produce a “more intelligent and less violent” society, he says. Genetically engineered “ethical” babies are a moral obligation and a part of “responsible parenting,” he emphasizes in a recent issue of the UK’s Telegraph.
Savulescu outlines his “procreative beneficence” methodology by “preimplantation genetic diagnosis via in vitro fertilization.” Chromosomal abnormalities or other undesirable inherited characteristics would be detected and deselected from embryos in a lab dish and then implanted in the uterus. (You can listen to lectures by Julian Savulescu here and here. Though I would warn you to read the remainder of this report before being swayed by his arguments.)

Due to an inherited gene mutation, humans lost their ability to internally produce vitamin C many generation ago and are totally dependent upon dietary or supplemental sources of vitamin C to avert scurvy, a state of frank vitamin C deficiency that produces symptoms of hemorrhage (eyes, skin, kidneys, etc.), fatigue, irritability, weak bones, poor immunity, etc.
On the other hand, most animals produce their own vitamin C internally, either in the liver or kidneys via an enzyme called gulonolactone oxidase that converts blood sugar to vitamin C (ascorbate). Only fruit bats, guinea pigs and primate monkeys do not synthesize vitamin C naturally and are in the same predicament as humans.

One of the dirty little secrets of modern medicine, and a reason why healthcare costs are so high, is that researchers and clinicians are trying to profiteer by inventing and delivering the highest cost medicine. Ten-cent cures are not to be found. Patentable, costly man-made medicines reign. Natural medicines are shunned or ignored.
Such is the case where British scientists claim they have discovered high iron levels in the colon/rectum raise the risk for cancer and say they are avidly searching for chelating (key-lay-ting) molecules that will mop up the iron and reduce the risk or even treat active colon/rectal cancer. They say they hope to start using these molecules in the coming years. But high-risk individuals with polyps in their colon or who have a history of bowel inflammation can reach for a cure that is already at hand.

The recent failure of an Alzheimer’s drug trial threatens to leave the world with no effective remedies to head off an explosive increase in the numbers of people affected by this disease. By the year 2040 there may be as many as 80 million human zombies on the planet, adults who have lost their memory, ability to communicate, make judgments and live independently.
Recognizing humanity is running out of time, that the lengthening lifespans across the globe will surely increase the incidence of Alzheimer’s dementia, drug companies have stepped up their research and development programs in hopes of reaping huge financial rewards. But sadly their efforts have fizzled.

The news media is operating in lock step with the FDA to create a factitious groundswell of public opinion that dietary supplements are deadly and must be regulated beyond existing law. The end-game is to demonize dietary supplements to the point where they become over-priced drugs that are captured by pharmaceutical companies to profiteer from. It’s all part of the modern American marketplace that is being bought off and manipulated in the new un-free enterprise system (aka fascism) where industry buys off government to do its bidding. The impetus for guillotining dietary supplements is that patents on blockbuster prescription drugs are expiring and the supplement industry is a growing market in a dying economy. A ginormous takeover of the supplement industry by pharmaceutical companies is underway.
The latest attempt to slander the dietary supplement industry is the September 2012 issue of Consumer Reports entitled “10 Surprising Dangers Of Vitamins & Supplements.”

Vitamin K, that essential but often avoided “blood clotting” vitamin that we consume in green leafy vegetables is generally not included in multivitamins and avoided by the many thousands of patients taking blood thinners. The “often-avoided” category speaks for the ongoing insanity within modern medicine.
About 1% of the adult population is affected by atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm (rapid disorganized heartbeats) that affects the top chambers of the heart. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk for a stroke by five-fold and accounts for about 15% of 700,000 strokes in the U.S. annually.

Been saying this for over a decade – surgical removal of a cancerous prostate gland is only problematic and does not increase survival. Years ago a government task force showed that watchful- waiting is preferred over treatment for prostate cancer, but the medical industry worked to abolish that agency and erase that science. Prostate cancer surgery simply makes many men impotent and incontinent.
With roughly 100,000 surgical procedures to remove a cancerous prostate gland every year, and urologists making roughly $300 million to perform the surgery, one wonders if the newly passed Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) is going to cease paying for this procedure. Stipulations in the Affordable Care Act state that unproven or disproven medical technologies will no longer be reimbursed by health insurance plans.

In order to gain a better understanding of healthcare reforms now underway in the U.S., I decided to read the writings of Ezekiel Emanuel MD, an oncologist and former White House advisor and brother of former White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel. What Dr. Emanuel advocates is reform that will likely take a decade to accomplish. By then, who knows if America’s healthcare system is still intact, at least financially?
