Unnecessary hysterectomies are in decline but still 1 in 5 women who undergo the procedure may not need this operation.
Putting young women on birth control pills which depletes folic acid that then induces breaks in DNA in the uterine lining which in turn produces an abnormal Pap smear that results in a hysterectomy is still a shameful practice.
The British Medical Journal just published a study showing young women in particular with abnormal Pap smears will experience normalization of their tissues 50% of the time.
It was way back in 1982 when a report published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed folic acid supplementation normalizes. Supplemental vitamin C is also helpful. Still no guidance to doctors in published clinical guidelines has been forthcoming to utilize vitamin supplements to prevent needless surgery.
But unsuspecting women are vulnerable to this common ruse. So far, no doctors have gone to jail for this. Even women who undergo hysterectomies for painful fibroids are never told those fibroids will vanish when they reach menopause. The use of safe phytoestrogens like resveratrol that calm sex hormones in women should be considered in young women with fibroids.
